Zimbabwe’s top 10 highest signings of all time

10.    Costa Nhamoinesu –   (250,000  €)

Costa Nhamoinesu is number ten on Zimbabwe’s highest signings list. The Sparta Prague defender moved to Zaglebie Lubin for a 250 thousand euro transfer fee in 2010. Nhamoinesu who moved to Sparta Prague for a free transfer has however appreciated in value following impressive performances for the Czech side. Nhamoinesu’s current market value is now over 1 million euros.

9.   Dickson Choto –   (300,000 €)

Dickson Choto was signed by Legia Warsaw for 300 thousand euros in 2003. Since retiring in  2013 Choto’s focus has concentrated on nurturing budding footballers at DC Academy, an institution he formed with the vision of grooming young players for the European market.

8.  Takesure Chinyama & Edward Sadomba  – (350,000 €)

At number eight is Takesure Chinyama who moved to Polish topflight outfit Legia Warsaw for 350 thousand euros back in 2007. Chinyama currently plays for Dynamos FC after an injury forced him away from Europe.

Tied with Takesure Chinyama in eighth position is Edward Sadomba. Sadomba played for Bidvest Wits and Liga Muculmana before attracting a 350 thousand euro transfer fee from Al Hilal in Sudan. Duduza as Sadomba is affectionately would spend three seasons in Sudan where he built a reputation as one of the leading strikers in the Sudanese topflight league.

7. Cuthbert Malajila –   (375,000  €)

Making it at number 7 of Zimbabwe’s highest ever signings is Cuthbert Malajila. The former Chapungu and Dynamos striker moved from Maritzburg United to Mamelodi Sundaowns for 375 thousand euros. The Warriors striker caught the eye of the brazalians during his days with Maritzburg who who were quick to release the player when they were offered 375 thousand euros.

6.   Quincy Antipas – (670,000  €)

Behind Khama is former Motor Action and Prince Edward old boy Quincy Antipas. Antipas in 2012 moved from Danish outfit Soderjyske to Brondby IF for 670 thousand euros. Antipas currently plays for Hobro in the Danish league.

5.   Khama Billiat – (690,000  €)

At number 5 on Zimbabwe’s highest ever signings list is Khama Billiat. Billiat was an instant hit after moving from Caps United to Ajax Cape Town in 2010. Having spent three years in Cape Town, Billiat’s speed and skill caught the eye of Mamelodi Sundowns who paid a record-breaking transfer of 690 thousand euros for the Zimbabwean midfielder.

4.   Tendayi Darikwa – (855,000 €)

In fourth position of Zimbabwe’s highest ever signings is Tendayi Darikwa. Darikwa was recently signed by English championship side Burnley who parted with an 855 thousand euro transfer fee. Darikwa’s form for Burnley has seen him catching the attention of Warriors Head Coach Kalisto Pasuwa who recently called up the lanky defender for national duty. Darikwa did not turn up for camp but has however underlined his desire to represent his country.

3. Knowledge Musona & Musawengosi Mguni (1,500,000  €)

Often touted as the next Peter Ndlovu, Knowledge Musona makes it at number three of Zimbabwe’s highest ever signings. The smiling assasin was a marvel to watch while at Kaizer Chiefs where his goal scoring feats led to European teams jostling for the strikers signature. Despite stiff competition from teams such as Glasgow Celtic Musona was eventually signed by German Bundesliga outfit TSG Hoffenheim for 1,5 million euros in 2011. Musona however struggled to adjust in Germany but is now doing well in Belgium where he turns out for KV Oostende.

Tied in third position with Knowledge Musona is former Motor Action player Musawengosi Mguni. Mguni’s first move abroad was to Hellenic in 2003. Mguni then attracted interest from Cyprus outfit Omonia Nicosia in 2004. Having spent four seasons in Cyprus Mguni made a big money move to United Arab Emirates side Al Shabab. Mguni attracted a transfer fee of 1,5 million euros from the UAE club.

2. Peter Ndlovu –  (2,250,000  €)

Arguably Zimbabwe’s greatest footballer of all time, Peter Ndlovu sits at  number 2 in the top 10 list of Zimbabwe’s highest ever signings. The flying elephant first joined a European club back in 1991 after he was signed by Coventry City from Highlanders for 14 thousand euros. Having shone for Coventry for 5 seasons Peter attracted a transfer fee of 2,25 million euros when he made a move to Birmingham City in 1997.

1.Benjani Mwaruwari – (6,000,000  €)

Benjani

Benjani Mwaruwari boasts of having attracted the highest transfer fee in the history of Zimbabwean football. Benjani who attracted huge interest while at AJ Auxerre was signed by English premiership club Portsmouth for 6 million euros in 2006. Despite moving from Portsmouth to Manchester City for 5,25 million euros on deadline day on 1 January 2008, Benjani’s move to Portsmouth remained his highest transfer fee.
