Zemura boost for Warriors

By Geronimo News

The Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team has received a major boost ahead of their second group game against Malawi on Friday following news of the arrival of talented left back Jordan Zemura.

Zemura has been hauled up in England after COVID concerns at his club Bournemouth, a development which saw him miss the Warriors opener against Senegal at the Bafoussam Omnisport Stadium Kouekong yesterday (Monday).

Zimbabwe lost 0-1 at the death after Sadio Mane converted a 97th minute penalty to give his side their first win at the 33rd edition of Africa’s top football competition.

But following a round of tests in which the Zimbabwean international reported a clean bill of health, Zemura is now free to join his teammates for the remaining two matches of the group stage.

Posting on his official Twitter page, Zemura said: “Can’t wait to join the boys, and represent my Zimbabwe. Two important games to get out of the group everything is possible.”

The availability of the talented defender, who can also be deployed as a winger has come at an opportune time where Zimbabwe needs all its strength to ensure they beat Malawi and Guinea to ensure their passage into the next round of the competition.

Judging from the way Norman Mapeza’s men managed to contain Senegal and ultimately made the tournament favourites look distinctly ordinary, chances are high that the Warriors will go past the group stage this time around.

The clash against Malawi will, however, not be an easy one as the Flames will also be eager to register a victory as they are also coming on the back of a 0-1 loss at the hands of Guinea.
