Zim Hip Hop Beefs of 2017

Hip hop is a game of lyrics, flows and egos. For the culture a beef or two are good for competition. The usual way of settling hip hop beefs is through diss tracks or rap battles. However social media and media in general tend to fuel beefs. 2017 saw a few squabbles between members of the hip hop fraternity. Some beefs were petty whilst others got a little bit out of hand. Here are some of the feuds in Zim Hip Hop in 2017.

Cal Vin Vs POY

It was the old school versus the new school when POY and Cal Vin feuded. The Bulawayo rappers found themselves going back and forth on the basis of assumptions. POY felt some type of way when he assumed that certain lyrics in Cal Vin’s track were aimed at him. He then dropped a diss track. Dat Luveve boy retaliated and clapped back with a diss track. Cal Vin won by public votes and the two have squashed their beef.

Tiara Baluti Vs Kikky Badass

As the female rappers aim to own the crown of Zim Hip hop’s queen, beef is bound to be there. Tiara Baluti and Kikky Badass have failed to see eye to eye. It’s not clear why the two ladies fail to get along but they can’t stand each other. Radio personalities tried to intervene however things went left.

Marcus Mafia Vs Tehn

Tehn embarked on a ten city tour around Zimbabwe. He brought with him him friends Ammara Brown, Simba Tagz, Thaiwanda Thai and Takefizzo. There was also an entourage that included upcoming singer, Fluid and rapper Marcus Mafia. Marcus Mafia accused Tehn of favouritism and being unprofessional. People from the industry defended Tehn, who swerved the issue.

Tiara Baluti Vs Cal Vin

The Beautiful Mess rapper publicly accused Cal Vin of making sexual advances towards her. Cal Vin didn’t take things lying down. Apart from denying the allegations he jumped on a diss track with Kikky Badass.

Zim Hip Hop Vs The Fixx

Zim Hip Hop artists have for the longest time fought radio personalities for airplay. Award winning ZiFM hip hop radio show, The Fixx got into a few issues with rappers. The common issue was that the hosts of the Fixx had favourites. Rappers also highlighted that the remarks made by PD the ghost and Lady K were often negative. The hosts themselves retaliated and stated that there is need for quality control. They also shared that they didn’t take too kindly to threats.
