Amanda Moyo Reflects on Miss Intercontinental Africa Triumph
Bulawayo-born Amanda Peresu Moyo (21), a National University of Science and Technology (NUST) student, has celebrated her recent victory as Miss Intercontinental Africa at the 52nd edition of the prestigious pageant. The event, held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, brought together contestants from across the globe, with Moyo making history for Zimbabwe.
Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, Moyo expressed her joy and gratitude for the support she received. “It is an overwhelming experience, a mix of emotions that I’m still processing. Zimbabwe did it; I did it, and together, we achieved something remarkable,” she said.
Balancing Academics and Pageantry
Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Manufacturing Engineering at NUST, Moyo reflected on the challenges of balancing her studies with the demands of the competition. “It was not an easy journey, but I am proud to have persevered through it all and brought the title home,” she said.
The journey to success was not without its difficulties. However, Moyo emphasized the personal growth she experienced, noting how the competition allowed her to interact with contestants from diverse cultural backgrounds. “The experience expanded my perspective, enhanced my confidence, and enabled me to forge meaningful connections. It was more than just a competition; it felt like both a homecoming and a cultural exchange,” she added.
A Supportive Foundation
Moyo attributed much of her success to the unwavering support of her family, particularly her mother, and the encouragement of fellow Zimbabweans. “The love and support I received were truly humbling and a driving force throughout this journey,” she remarked.
Her philanthropic endeavors, led through the Amanda Green Foundation, further underscore her commitment to making a positive impact. The foundation focuses on addressing social issues, reflecting her passion for community development beyond her achievements in pageantry.
A History of Excellence
Moyo’s journey in pageantry is marked by notable accomplishments. In 2022, she was crowned Miss Ecotourism, and earlier this year, she secured a top-eight finish at Miss Universe Zimbabwe. The Miss Intercontinental pageant, known for its emphasis on intelligence, cultural awareness, and engagement with global issues, provided the perfect platform for Moyo to shine.
“The competition was about more than beauty; it celebrated intelligence, cultural understanding, and the ability to connect with others on a global stage,” Moyo explained.
A Legacy for Zimbabwe
Amanda Moyo’s success resonates as a symbol of inspiration for young Zimbabweans. Her achievement highlights the importance of resilience, determination, and the ability to excel in multiple domains. As she returns home, she carries not only a crown but also a message of hope and empowerment for the next generation.
