Bulawayo Children’s Choir Teams Up with Asaph Afrika and Meet Luminous for Empowering New Anthem “Yes I Can”

The Bulawayo Children’s Choir has announced an exciting collaboration with award-winning Hip Hop duo Asaph Afrika and Meet Luminous on a new single titled Yes I Can. The song, set for release in the first week of November, delivers a strong message of self-belief, empowerment, and perseverance.
Produced by Percy of Hertz Studios, Yes I Can blends contemporary Hip Hop with choral harmonies, creating a powerful and uplifting sound. The project will be accompanied by visuals directed by AJV Afri Art.
Trevor Mawaka, Director of the Bulawayo Children’s Choir, described the collaboration as a major milestone for the ensemble. “We are thrilled to have collaborated with Asaph Afrika and Meet Luminous on this special project. Their passion and talent have brought a new level of excitement to our music, and we can’t wait for everyone to hear it. The experience of going to the studio with them was inspirational, and we hope it will significantly contribute to the musical growth of our children,” he said.
Asaph Afrika, known for using his platform to address social issues and mentor young artistes, brings his signature lyrical style and authenticity to the track. His contribution aligns with his broader mission of empowering the youth through music.
Meet Luminous shared his admiration for the choir and the experience of working with children who are passionate about music. “When Trevor reached out to me and mentioned that I’d be working with a children’s choir, my heart melted. I remember what it was like being a child and wanting to express my gifts. This collaboration was an opportunity to honour and inspire children who dream of becoming artistes,” he said.
He also commended the professionalism of the choir members. “I give credit to the children themselves — they were well-organised, which was evident during the recording session. The choir is incredibly talented; we simply featured on a solid song, contributing to an already well-established vision,” added Luminous.
Asaph Afrika echoed similar sentiments, saying that working with the Bulawayo Children’s Choir reaffirmed his belief in the city’s creative future. “The children’s energy and discipline are inspiring. The future of the arts in Bulawayo is in safe hands,” he said.
Founded to nurture young musical talent, the Bulawayo Children’s Choir has earned a reputation for excellence in performance and recording. Their upcoming single Yes I Can marks another significant step in bridging generations of musicians while promoting unity, hope, and artistic expression.
The collaboration not only strengthens Bulawayo’s musical identity but also highlights the power of cross-genre partnerships in shaping Zimbabwe’s modern sound. With Yes I Can, the choir and its collaborators are set to inspire a new wave of young dreamers to believe in their abilities and aim higher.
