Essential Books Writers Association to Host Annual Great Get-Together Book Launch in Harare
The Essential Books Writers Association (EBWA) is set to bring together some of Zimbabwe’s finest literary talents at Batanai Mall in Harare this Friday for the third edition of their annual Great Get-Together Book Launch.
This literary festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of creativity, featuring activities such as book readings, spoken word poetry, book launches, sales and exchanges, a photoshoot session, and a dedicated lunch for writers.
Spotlight on Emerging Talent
The event will showcase the work of 25 emerging writers who will launch their latest books. Among them are notable names like Tinashe Muchuri, Aleck Kaposa, Biggie Chiranga, Oscar Gwiriri, and his award-winning son, Onald. Other authors, including Pamela Phiri, Perpetua Mutembo Gonese, Tebeth Chanetsa, and Herbert Chiweshe, will also present their works.
A Vision for Zimbabwean Literature
EBWA chairperson Aleck Kaposa, a three-time National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) nominee, emphasized the association’s mission to create a thriving literary industry in Zimbabwe.
“The association seeks to promote members’ works through book festivals, business exhibitions, and book shows,” Kaposa said. “We aim to identify and nurture creative writing talent in young people, improve public appreciation of Zimbabwean literature, and foster socio-economic development through the literary arts.”
A Platform for Young Writers
One of the event’s highlights will be the official launch of the Creative Kids at Essentials (CKE) programme, which supports young writers. Among its success stories is 10-year-old Kahile Chitovoro, who gained recognition for her book, The Ugly Girl.
Honouring Excellence
Beaven Tapureta, a distinguished writer, editor, and director of the NAMA Award-winning Writers International Network, will grace the event as the guest of honour.
Kaposa expressed enthusiasm for the gathering, saying, “We are excited to host this event, which promises to be a celebration of creativity and talent. We invite book lovers, writers, and the general public to join us for an exciting day of literature and networking.”
