Gospel singer opens up about being sexually abused when she was young
Most women are sexually abused at a young age and sadly the cases go unreported at times Chitungwiza based gospel singer Sandra Chirenje has revealed that she was a victim of se_xual abuse during her childhood.Chirenje said the perpetrator was a close relative and she could not report the matter due to family dynamics.
Chirenje said her mother was silenced by other relatives for the purpose of keeping the family united.Said Susan Chirenje of her ordeal“I am a victim of ra_pe. I was abused by a family member.“Sadly someone who was supposed to be a protector took advantage of me.Sandra Chirenje said she could not report the issue since her mom was threatened by relatives that the matter would sow division in the family and result in them being abandoned by relatives. She said she is still traumatized by the whole thing and is now involved in advocacy work.
However Chirenje controversially suggested that the way ladies dress can lure rap_ists and most se_xual offenders are close family members or associatesShe also encouraged girls must speak out and report any sexual offenses against them.
“Most ra_pists are persons who are close to us. Strangers are culprits too but on a thin margin.“Fashion is good but don’t you think it’s wise to cover up, and try by all means not to expose your body, especially girls. She said people should never allow anyone to touch them without their permission and consent.
Chirenje recently released a song targeted at se_xual abuse awareness titled Ndozvireva Chete accompanied by a video. She said the song is about sexual abuse victims having the courage to speak out.“It talks about a broken soul which was closed under, a soul that was burning from inside for a long period of time but now that soul is saying because I now can come out saying it out(Ndakuzvireva).
Chirenje has three albums under her belt , namely Ndamuwana Jesu (2013), Tichaivaka Chete (2015 ) and Shekinah (2018).
