Lady with albinism denied entrance into Pik and Pay shop
There has been outrage on social media following reports that a woman with albinism was denied entrance into Pik and Pay store in Masvingo after refusing to use their hand sanitizer. The woman is alleged to have refused to have her hands sanitized at the door because her skin is sensitive to chemicals in the sanitizer. She however got a rude awakening when the security detail denied her entry into the shop claiming that she ought to comply with covid 19 regulations and have her hands sanitized first.
The woman was humiliated and had to trudge off after failing to get any assistance at the store. People have been lashing out at Pik and Pay staff for failing to appreciate that people have different health conditions and that the use of sanitizers might affect some people’s health. They said security details could have at least offered some tap water to the lady to wash her hands.
Pik and Pay is one of the major shops in the country with a large client base. Most people have failed to come to terms with the incident. Those living with albinism have a special condition which makes their skin very sensitive to certain chemicals.
People have come forward with their own experiences with security guards at the giant store. It seems the overzealous security personnel have been giving most people a hard time. Some have even confessed to getting their grocery needs sorted elsewhere.
People have demanded an apology from Pik and pay over the issue. They have claimed that people living with disabilities and special conditions ought to be given fair chance at doing normal every day stuff. Pik and Pay is yet to comment on the matter
