Nhaka Art Gallery Hosts “Tandavara” Art Exhibition in Harare
Nhaka Art Gallery in Harare is set to close the year in grand style with a two-day art sale and exhibition titled Tandavara. Scheduled for November 30 and December 1, the event promises to be a vibrant showcase of creativity, bringing together over 20 notable artists who are shaping the visual arts landscape.
Renowned visual artist Troy Makaza, known for his participation in the prestigious 60th International Exhibition of Biennale di Venezia, will be among the distinguished guests. Makaza will engage with other visual artists, exchanging ideas and techniques in what promises to be an enriching dialogue.
The exhibition will feature works by acclaimed artists such as Helen Lieros, Tashinga Majiri, Cosmas Shiridzinonwa, Crispen Matekenya, Freddy Tauro, Lilian Magodi, Richard Witikani, Eugene Mugocha, George Churu, Yananiso Kunaka, and Sky Solanje.
A Celebration of Memory and Identity
According to the organisers, Tandavara is more than an art display—it’s an immersive journey into memory, culture, and heritage.
“Tandavara is more than an art exhibition, it is a journey through the fragments of our memories, pieced together like a delicate collage,” reads the curatorial statement titled The Power of Memory Art.
“Each artwork at the event reflects an intricate narrative inspired by personal and collective experiences, a mosaic of culture, heritage, and identity. Much like Helen Lieros’ mixed media piece with its textured layers, earthy tones, and symbolic marks, the pieces displayed at Tandavara evoke a sense of history and a reverence for ancestral connections.”
The event will explore the intersection of tradition and contemporary art through an array of materials and techniques. From Solanje’s dynamic creations to Gresham Nyaude and Laura Dyer’s works, the exhibition is set to celebrate the diversity and depth of Zimbabwean art.
Artworks for Every Taste
Collectors and art enthusiasts will have the opportunity to purchase exceptional pieces from the participating artists. The exhibition highlights the global appeal of Zimbabwean art, which continues to win acclaim for its quality and authenticity.
Whether you are a seasoned art collector or new to the scene, Tandavara promises an engaging experience, offering a glimpse into the stories and traditions that define Zimbabwe’s artistic heritage.
Nhaka Art Gallery invites the public to join this celebration of visual arts, where memory, culture, and innovation converge.
