Outrage mounts over continued Zupco accidents
There has been outrage over continued Zupco accidents in the country. A few days after a Zupco bus ploughed into a passenger who was waiting to board the bus in town, another accident has been reported yet again. Most people are questioning whether these bus drivers are qualified enough to drive safely on the road.
It has been reported that the driver of a Zupco bus lost control of the vehicle and plunged into people that were conducting their business at Mupedzanhamo market in Mbare. Several people were injured. Social media users have been seething in anger at the continued recklessness of the drivers and the way sub issues are simply being brushed aside.
Ever since the lockdown was initiated in March, only Zupco buses and kombis have been allowed to move on the roads as public transport. This has caused a lot of transport problems as there are not enough buses to cater for transport needs of masses of people that commute to work daily.
Another burning issue is that of rains that have started to fall hence makit difficult for people to wait in line for the buses. To sum up the situation at the moment, there is simply a severe transport crisis at the moment. Schools reopening has also worsened the situation.
Most people are worried that the rains will cause even further accidents due to slippery roads and the way the buses overload at times. There is yet to be a solution to the crisis.
