These are the prices of basic commodities in Zimbabwe
Most people have been calling for government to intervene with regards to the issue of price control. With retailers seeking to make a profit, prices of goods have skyrocketed beyond the reach of many. The most talked about food item that most people are now at pains to purchase is bread.
The precious commodity is now fetching at 60 rtgs in most shops which is beyond the reach of many. Indeed it has broken the record o being the .oat expensive bread in the world. Bread has become so special that most families only have it on special days or when there is a visitor.
Prices of other basic commodities have also been hiked. Sugar, which is still unavailable in most shops is now fetching at 140 rtgs, a far cry from the 66 rtgs which it was bought for not so long ago.
Mealie meal is also very expensive nowadays after its price was increased to 400 rtgs a few weeks ago. The subsidised mealie meal scheme has since become a goner like most things in Zimbabwe.
For those whose kids love eggs, tables have turned as the price of eggs keeps going up on a weekly basis. You can now but eggs at a staggering 250 rtgs in most shops
Cereals such as cornflakes and cerevita are now selling within the range of 100-350 rtgs depending on the brand. Instant porridge is selling within the region of 100-159 rtgs
Beer was not spared from the price increases with a single bottle of cider bring sold at over 100rtgs
