Bulawayo gospel group hits jackpot, to perform at prestigious USA awards event

A Bulawayo based gospel group hit the jackpot and will be perfoming in the USA at the Eddy awards. Vocal Ex was invited to perfom at the event which will be held in Florida from February 20 – 23 this year. The group was founded by Thembelani Mdlaziba in 2013 and has composed some soulful gospel hymns that would uplift anyone’s spirit. They are currently promoting their seven track E.P titled Eyeyhu Indaba ayipheleli lapha. The group was spotted online by scouts of the Eddy awards who then contacted them. This was after they posted a resounding cover song and this captured the attention of the scouts and organizers of the event.

The Eddy awards are organised on an annual basis and Vocal Es is the only group from outside the United States to Grace the occasion and the only one from Africa. Speaking on the issue group founder Mdlaziba stated, “Perfoming at the Eddy awards would be a milestone and being extended such an invite is testinony of hard work”. He further stated that the recognition is both humbling and encouraging for the group.

The group members are however still awaiting their visa applications to be approved. The Eddy awards celebrate spirited pioneers who bring a unique sound and vision to the music industry. Vocal Ex has been nominated twice for the Bulawayo Arts Awards. The group has perfomed in several countries including South Africa and Botswana.
