Warm welcome for Warriors in Bafoussam

The Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team is now in Bafoussam ahead of their participation at the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations fiesta in Cameroon.

The Warriors who received a warm welcomed at the Bafoussam Airport earlier today were in Yaoundé since their arrival in the Central African country some days ago, are raring to go and will be eager to make history this time around by becoming the first group of players to go beyond the group stages of the tournament.

Warriors arrive in Bafoussam

Zimbabwe who have so far recorded a clean bill of health in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic will clash against Senegal in their tournament opener at the Kouekong Stadium on Monday.

While the Warriors are safe and sound, their opponents Senegal and Malawi’s camps were hit by COVID-19 just days before the commencement of the biennial football spectacle.

Nine players and staff in the Senegal squad have tested positive for the virus while Malawi has seen three of their players affected and has since left them behind in isolation when the rest of the squad departed for Cameroon on Wednesday (yesterday).

For Zimbabweans their prayer is that the situation remains the same for the Lions of Teranga and the Flames so that the Warriors will face weakened sides and better their chances of progressing to the next round.

Warriors raring to go

The only missing Warrior in the Zimbabwe camp is Jordan Zemura who is still buckled up in England following a COVID-19 outbreak at his club Bournemouth.
