Kirsty Coventry Appointed Cabinet Minister
Being a living icon and champion in Zimbabwean sport has earned Kirsty Coventry a sit in the new cabinet. On Friday 7 September, President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced a new 20-member Cabinet. He also appointed Deputy Ministers and 10 Provincial Affairs Ministers.
Out of all the appointed members, Kirsty’s appointment has been welcomed by Zimbabweans. She has been appointed as Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation. Coventry, has won seven Olympic medals at Athens 2004 as well as Beijing 2008. She is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and in early 2018, she was elected the chairperson of the IOC Athletes’ Commission, the body that represents all Olympic athletes worldwide.
This is very encouraging as many have hope in change for the ministry. Many have added that Kirsty being a young person, she can relate and relay the issues faced by young people in Zimbabwe. Check out how Zimbabweans reacted to the announcement.
