Things are supposed to get easier after graduating but nowadays it’s difficult to get entry level jobs especially in Zimbabwe. Because there’s so much unemployed experienced people in the country most companies want at least 1-2 years experience when hiring for entry level jobs.

If you’ve recently graduated here’s what you need to do immediately to gain work experience in Zimbabwe.

1. Use Networking sites

Networking is the most effective way when job hunting. Join professional groups like LinkedIn. It’s one of the best ways to attract potential employers. Learn how to market yourself and teach yourself the skills you might need and connect with professionals who already have those skills and learn to develop them on your own.

2. Seek an Internship

If there’s an internship opportunity, grab it even when you did internship when you were in college. Internships not only provides you with the skills you need for your future job but you might get lucky and get a job offer from the same company.

3. Look for contract/temporary work

Do not overlook contract or temporary work, even if it’s a month. Every opportunity is a step closer to getting the job that you want. The money might not be that great but focus on improving your skills. Use this opportunity to expand your skills as well. Make the most of it by exposing yourself to the other parts of the company that might interest you.

4. Volunteer

It might be difficult to sustain yourself when you are not getting a salary but also think about the bigger picture. Voluntary work is great because you can work and gain experience for as long as you want to, always look for something in your field.

Start ups are always looking for motivated young talents and most are willing to give you more responsibility which is great way to learn all the skills you need.
