9 Tips for Cutting Back on Drinking

You probably have experienced some health problems or have other reasons, but you want cut back on drinking. From weight gain to terrible hang overs, there are some people come to a realization that they need to stop drinking. There are recommended guidelines for drinking so if you are at risk of developing alcohol-related problems then it’s time to cut back. Your goal is to improve your health and your life by reducing the effects of alcohol. What is important to note is that when it comes to cutting back you need to do what works for you. Cutting back is also an exercise that needs to be practiced step by step. Take your time but always remember the goal is to have a healthy alcohol consumption better yet to quit completely. Try these tips to help you cut back on your alcohol consumption.

 

1.Set realistic goal

Set goals of how many drinks that you want to consume in a specified time period. Writing down your goals can help remind you that you want to limit your drinking. This will help you reduce the risks of over consuming alcohol.

2. Count Your Drinks

Making the effort to record how many drinks you have may also help you reduce or slow down your drinking.

3. Measure your drinks

Learn to count your drinks and tell yourself that you have had enough.

4. Pace Yourself

Pace your drinks, by drinking slowly so that you can cut down the number of drinks that you have. It’s also important to have your drinks whilst cold.

5. Space Your Drinks

In between your drinks have non-alcoholic beverages or better yet water.

6. Make sure that you eat

Eating food will reduce their craving for alcohol. Also don’t drink on an empty stomach.

7. Avoid triggers

Avoid people, places, things and certain activities can be triggers that cause you to have an urge to drink. Avoiding those triggers can prevent you from drinking.

8. Find hobbies to substitute drinking

Your life might be consumed with alcohol so try substituting social drinks or stress drinking by embarking on new hobbies. Participate in activities that wont tempt yo to drink.

9. Learn How to Say ‘No’

As Oprah Winfrey has said, your most powerful asset is the word ‘No’. Temptations will come when you will be offered a drink or two. Learn to be firm and politely say “no thank you”.
