Universities in Zimbabwe have been called to return to normal following former president Robert Mugabe’s resignation. Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF)’s Commander Constantino Chiwenga in his speech stated that students should go back to school.
The University of Zimbabwe reversed the decision to close early and defer exams to next year in January. UZ students had on Monday protested and said that they wouldn’t write exams. This came during the period where the country awaited former President Mugabe’s resignation. They also demanded that UZ Vice Chancellor Levi Nyagura step down and Grace Mugabe’s doctorate revoked.
General Chiwenga said that students across the country are encouraged to be calm and to proceed with their educational programmes as scheduled. In the statement, UZ announced that exams have been rescheduled to Thursday 23 November.
Meanwhile, Midlands State University (MSU) will hold its graduation ceremony on Friday 24 November contrary to reports that it had been cancelled.
