Turn Unused Buildings Into Unversities
Former Minister of State for Matabeleland South province and educationist Ambassador Aaron Maboyi-Ncube has called on universities and colleges to utilise idle buildings in Matabeleland South province. Said Maboyi Ncube,
We have places like Beitbridge, West Nicholson, Maphisa and even Plumtree in Matabeleland South, where idle and disused infrastructure can house university branches for the benefit our communities…In Beitbridge, we have two disused hotels in the form of former Rainbow and Express hotels which are ideal for that and institutions of higher learning must pounce on any such opportunity.
In April, students at Gwanda State University went on strike protesting against poor learning conditions and inadequate infrastructure. The students said there was a lack of key infrastructure at the new institution. The university is located at the site of the Epoch Mine which shut down years ago.
