ZBC banned from broadcasting Mugabe burial proceedings.

Zimbabwe’s only television broadcaster ZBC suffered humiliation on Saturday as they were barred from broadcasting the burial proceedings of the late former president of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe. He was buried in his rural home in Zvimba. The media entity had gone there with reporters and camera personnel and their famous van only to be turned away. They were allowed not even a glimpse of what was taking place at the burial site. It is quite unusual in Zim for a national hero to be buried without the burial proceedings being availed to the public. Most people said the national broadcaster had been dealt a humiliating blow as they had spent decades reporting about the former president only to be barred from his burial. Others said it was a good thing to respect the privacy of the former first family. Mugabe was buried in Zvimba after disagreements between his family and the government. Since he had been accorded hero status, the state had insisted on him being buried at the national heroes acre. His family, Grace in particular, had insisted on him being buried at his rural home. His family claimed that Mugabe had requested that he wanted to be buried in Zvimba before he passed away. Mugabe passed away in Singapore a few weeks ago.
