“I hate black women who wear weaves. They have no self respect” Dr Guramatunhu

Renowned eye specialist Dr Guramatunhu has just stirred a hornets nest after proclaiming that he hates black women who wear weaves. He said that it is unnatural for women to buy hair from Brazilian ladies when they can equally rock their own natural afros.

Although the doctor might have been trying to conscientise black women to take pride in their natural assets, his message has received major backlash with women women calling him all sorts of names. Amongst them was Advocate Fadzai mahere who warned the doctor to stay in his lane. She sad his so called natural hair gospel was totally uncalled for and he had no right to sanction what women should and should not do with regards to their bodies.

Mahere said black women are free to put on a hairstyle of their choice according to their preferences and what their budget calls for. She stated,Don’t you dare walk up to a black woman and make her feel bad about her choice”. There has,however, been a natural hair movement in Zimbabwe of late. Women have been rocking natural hairstyles and embracing their dark,kinky hair. Even bridal hairstyles have suddenly changed to incorporate natural hair styles

Brazilian and Peruvian weaves have also been making a big impact in the beauty industry.
