Inspirational: Basetsana Khumalo dates Ramaphosa.
Former miss South Africa and media mogul Basetsana Khumalo recently made a date with the South African president Cyril Ramaphosa to discuss issues affecting the majority of citizens. Basetsana was representing the Business Women’s Association (BWA) for their inaugural presidential dialogue of 2019.
Basetsana has indeed inspired many women all over Africa that they too can have a word in terms of mapping out economic policies. She said she had implored tell president in critical issues affecting citizens and women in particular. Basetsana said she had advised the president to look into the issue of gender based violence which has been a norm in South Africa. This is so, in spite of the country having enjoyed independence for 25 years.
Another issue that Basetsana brought to the attention of the president was that of soaring unemployment levels. She sad the unemployment rate in South Africa is way too high. She also highlighted the racial disparity in the unemployment figures and how it was contributing to the spiralling downwards of the economy.
Many women can indeed take a leaf from Basetsana that a woman’s place is no longer in the kitchen but in the presidential office, making presentations to the president on how to improve livelihoods of citizens. She has proved that women are indeed instrumental in coming up with viable solutions to enhance the economy.
Basetsana was ecstatic after her meeting with the president and looked optimistic that something will be done to address the issues raised.
