Zinara boss slapped with a 15 month jail term.
Former Zinara boss Simon Mudzingwa Taranhike has been slapped with a 15 month jail term after being convicted of criminal abuse of office. It was alleged that the former Finance director had instructed a junior Zinara employee to dispatch 1800 litres of fuel to some members of the media. He was also accused of tampering with petty cash belonging to the parastatal.
Regional magistrate Hosea Mujaya had initially sentenced the former Zinara bigwig to 30 months imprisonment but suspended 6 months on condition of good behaviour. A further 9 months were suspended on condition that Taranhike pays back the 1800 litres of fuel to Zinara by 31 December 2019. Taranhike was arrested in June this year. He is one of the classic examples of the current closing in of unscrupulous activities by those in high positions by the Zimbabwe Anti corruption commission.
Other bigwigs that have been arrested include former minister of Tourism Priscilla Mupfumira and former vice president Phelekezela Mphoko. Zacc has promised to go after all unruly elements involved in corrupt activities in the country. The net is certainly closing in on corrupt individuals. Zinara has been marred by poor administration and mismanagement of funds by its top brass.
