ZACC goes after Anglican bishop
In their quest to rid the system of corrupt individuals ZACC recently made another shocking arrest. The anti corruption machine arrested Manicaland Anglican bishop Eric Ruwona on fraud charges. It is alleged that Ruwona and his accomplices secured loans worth USD 700 000 for pesinal use using church property as collateral security. Ruwona appeared before Mutare magistrate Tendai Mahwe facing charges of fraud and was remanded to January 29 on ZWL$ 15 000 bail. Ruwona and three accomplices who are still at large hatched a plan to fraudulently apply for a USD 100 000 loan from Agribank on February 26 2016.
They claimed that the money was for the construction of St Catherine’s High school in Rusape and the purchase of a vehicle for the shool. They offered church land situated at Stand number 78 Mutare Township as collateral. The loan was approved because of the misrepresentation. During the same month, Riwona and his accomplices struck again. They secured another loan from Agribank of USD 350 000 in 2017 and later applied for a bank overdraft of USD 250 000.
The total value of money prejudiced amounts to USD 700 000. ZACC has been hard at work arresting prominent figures such as Ignatius Chombo and Prisca Mupfumira. The arrest if the man of cloth has however left many people questioning the authenticity of men of cloth in the country. Scandals involving church leaders have become rampant.
