Full Press state is as follows
Fellow Zimbabweans, brothers and sisters. The world is facing tough times in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak. This is the worst global pandemic in our lifetime, perhaps the greatest threat to humanity since the great wars of the last century. We have all seen the news. We have all witnessed the tragic scenes in China, Iran, Italy and other countries around the world. We stand by our friends in the international community. My Government empathises with the affected people around the globe and stands ready to assist in whatever ways within our capacity. We expect science to come up with solutions to this problem soon. Pandemics of this kind have a scientific explanation and like any other national phenomena cannot be blamed on anyone and know no boundaries. We send our condolences and our solidarity to all those who are already suffering, and strength and good health to those in need. As a nation, we must stand strong. Strong and united. Strong and vigilant. We must act early. And we must act sensibly. Currently, we are one of the lucky nations. However, we must not rest on our laurels. Preparation is key. And we are working with international organisations and global health experts to make sure Government gets it right. We are acting now. We must all act now. All of us. We will prepare our health sector to the best of our abilities. And we are working to ensure that our doctors and nurses have the necessary know-how and equipment to deal with this threat. Now is the time to look after each other and think especially about the weak and vulnerable. Do not take unnecessary risks. Do not belittle this threat. And do not endanger your loved ones. My Government will do all in its power to protect the people. However, the ultimate responsibility lies in you; the people of Zimbabwe. If you have a cough, a sore throat, high temperature or if you feel unwell; please stay away from crowds. Please stay away from the elderly. And if you can please stay at home until all symptoms have disappeared. Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly, and maintain best hygiene practices. People of Zimbabwe: We have suffered from the effects of climate change. We have struggled through economic downturns. Indeed, we have faced many challenges as a nation. Let’s make sure that this is not our next Cyclone Idai. Our response and resilience will determine our trajectory. As we all work to build a new Zimbabwe and a new future, let us start by getting the basics right. Protect your health. Protect your families. Protect your people. God bless us all. God bless the people of Zimbabwe.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa
