Impoverished Beitbridge doctor appeals appeals for help
A doctor based in Beitbridge has opened up about her daily struggles. The medical doctor openly declared her poverty on social media and appealed for help via Twitter. She tweeted,”It is the truth, I have nothing. Food here(in Beitbridge) is bought in South African rands and i cannot afford that. I am accepting anything”. She lamented poor remuneration and claimed she was starving. The message went viral over the weekend.
The doctor, who goes by the name Sandra Kudzai Wayerera said she was in dire need of assistance. She wrote,” I am looking for any kind of donation. Nzara yavakundikunda. Vakuru vakati ukanyara haugwaze ndabvisa nyadzi dzose ndikauya pano kuzokumbirawo rubatsiro”. The emotional plea for help left many people asking cooperates to chip in and assist the doctor.
It is trite to note that doctors are currently playing a crucial role during this time of the covid 19 pandemic. Others have been questioning whether the doctor is not benefitting from incentives being offered to doctors by Econet boss Strive Masiyiwa. It is however common cause that most civil servants in Beitbridge are on the brink of starvation. Most food items are priced in rands in supermarkets. Those that rely on rented accomodation have to source for rands in order to pay rentals. The situation is indeed pathetic. Several residents have pledges to help doctor Wayerera
