Starving accountant grateful for donations
A local government accountant Samson Mukonyora is overwhelmed with emotion following a massive response to his plight. The middle aged accountant touched the hearts of many people last week when he begged for food online. He said he was getting a paltry USD 25 a month which has been unable to buy adequate food for his family. He even published his payslip as proof of his plight. Mr Mukonyora was back online a few days ago to extend his gratitude to well wishers who has lended a helping hand. He said he had received donations in cash and kind. He even asked people to stop as the response had been overwhelming. Mr Mukonyora said a well wisher had transferred via ecocash rtgs 14 000. The accountant was clearly grateful for all the support.
His story came barely a month after a doctor stationed in Beitbridge appealed for donations. She said she was suffering and could barely afford to fees herself and her family. She also said earning in rtgs dollars was making life hard for her as she had to buy things priced in South African rands in the boarder town.
The recent announcement that civil servants will be paid a covid 19 allowance in US dollars must have come as a welcome relief for all members of the civil service such as Mr Mukonyora.
