The most common phrases of 2020
The year has been filled with a lot of activities with the major highlight being the scourge of the covid 19. New song releases and dramatic public events all led to the invention of new words and phrases. Here are the top 10 phrases of 2020.
1 Depiritating
The vice president Constantino Chiwenga came gave his own twist to the word “debilitating”. A heavy Shona accent resulted in him pronouncing the word in a rather hillarious way during his speeches.
2 Tovhaira fani
Jah Prayzah gave new meaning to this phrase following the release of his new album Hokoyo. It has since become common.
3 Bholato bholato
Seh Calaz also invented his own word Bholato translated to mean okay. It has become a household word.
4 Twabam
The word by Prophet Passion Java has not lost relevance. It is still trending.
5 Am a goat
Ghanaian singer AY Poyoo became an overnight sensation following the release of his song Am a goat. Without bothering to refer to the actual interpretation of the word which means Greatest of all Time, Poyoo’s main focus is on actual goats as evidenced in his video.
6 Breadwinner
A young boy by the name Zoolian was recorded asking for bread. He lamented having to eat sweet potatoes everyday for breakfast. The young boy later hot massive endorsements from bread companies, meat companies, retailers, boutiques and even charity organisations earning him the title Breadwinner.
