Festive Spirit Sweeps Zimbabwe with Memorable Events and Celebrations
Merry-makers across Zimbabwe are embracing the festive season with enthusiasm, with a series of high-profile events taking center stage. One of the highlights was the 2024 Zimdancehall National Cup Clash, held at the City Sports Centre in Harare last Saturday.
Ngwere Lite emerged as the overall winner, clinching the prestigious trophy and a BMW, generously sponsored by event organizer Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions. The keys to the car were handed over by businessman and arts promoter Tinashe Mutarisi, much to the excitement of the crowd.
This year’s event was a significant milestone for the Zimdancehall community, as music promoters from different stables gathered, exchanging ideas under one roof. Zimdancehall exponent Godfatha Templeman, who presided over the contest, captivated the crowd with his commanding presence, further solidifying his reputation as one of the genre’s most influential figures.
The fan-judged contest lived up to expectations, with a clear consensus on the winner, Ngwere Lite. Fellow hype men, Etherton Beenie and DJ Fantan, added their own flair to the event, making it one of the most memorable Zimdancehall shows of the year. Both artists are beloved by fans for their energetic performances.
For Ngwere Lite, it was a momentous night. After much anticipation, he became the proud owner of a BMW, fulfilling a dream he had long held. This victory has certainly made 2024 a year to remember for the artist, whose talent has been rewarded with both recognition and a new car.
The Zimdancehall movement continues to produce fresh talent, and this year’s edition was a testament to that, with Ngwere Lite leading the charge. The genre remains in capable hands, thanks to the tireless efforts of Chimbodza, Templeman, and Beenie, who have been instrumental in empowering young artists and helping to address the issues of violence that once plagued Zimdancehall events. The smooth atmosphere at this year’s show is a reflection of the progress made in that regard.
For gospel music enthusiasts, the festive spirit continued with the ‘Apostolic Gathering’ concert, hosted by the Zimpraise Choir. The event featured Nigerian singer Mercy Chinwo, who delivered a stellar performance, leaving fans thoroughly entertained. Local artists, including Minister Ellard, Sharon Cherayi, Takesure Zamar, and many others, also shared the stage, offering fans an unforgettable musical experience.
Meanwhile, club-goers were treated to a memorable night at the Carling Black Label DJs Cup Clash, held at the Hippodrome Auditorium in Braeside, Harare. This well-attended event saw DJ Joe from Harare North emerge as the overall winner, taking home a prize pool worth $15,000, which included a MacBook and studio equipment. The competition showcased some of the best DJs in the country, with DJ Irvenex and DJ Sawada also recognized for their creativity and music selection.
In Chitungwiza, Alick Macheso returned to his roots at the Aquatic Complex, where he performed for his loyal fans. The sungura star, who has a packed schedule throughout the festive season, showed no signs of slowing down. His shows at the Aquatic Complex have become a tradition, drawing large crowds year after year.
Meanwhile, in Bulawayo, the Kings Kraal Jazz Festival, headlined by Jeys Marabini and Tanga wekwa Sando, set the tone for a memorable week of music. The event, which coincided with Marabini’s 34-year celebration in the industry, featured a star-studded lineup, including Tariro Negitare, Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana, and many more.
As the festive season unfolds, it’s clear that Zimbabwe’s music scene is alive with energy and excitement.
