Gidiza Back at Dynamos as Team Manager: A New Chapter for the Harare Giants
Dynamos Football Club has made two major appointments ahead of the 2025 season, signaling a strong push to strengthen their squad and technical team. Ronald “Gidiza” Sibanda, one of Zimbabwe’s finest midfielders, has made a return to the club as the new team manager, 26 years after his influential role in the CAF Champions League campaign. Alongside him is Mark Mathe, former Harare City coach, who takes on the role of first assistant to head coach Lloyd Chigowe.
Sibanda, whose illustrious career saw him represent Zimbabwe in over 50 international matches and participate in the 2004 and 2006 Africa Cup of Nations, brings a wealth of experience to the Glamour Boys. His professional journey also took him to clubs like Zimbabwe Saints, AmaZulu, and Njube Sundowns, with his time at Dynamos between 1998 and 1999 being especially memorable. His return to the club is seen as a pivotal move to help strengthen the technical setup and guide the team as they rebuild after a number of player departures.
In a statement, Dynamos expressed their excitement about the appointment: “As an accomplished former professional footballer, the club believes Gidiza’s appointment will help shore up our technical team. He is regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s best midfielders of all time and commands a lot of respect for the service he gave to the local game.”
Sibanda replaces Harry Lusengo, who had been in charge of the team management for the past two years. Additionally, Mathe, a seasoned coach with experience at various Zimbabwean clubs including Chicken Inn, Bulawayo Chiefs, Highlanders, and Harare City, has been appointed as Chigowe’s assistant. Mathe’s arrival brings valuable expertise, especially after his recent stint at Mozambican club UD Songo FC.
