Zimbabwe Vice Captains Munetsi and Hadebe Impress at Club Level

The Zimbabwe senior national team vice captains, Marshall Munetsi and Teenage Hadebe, are making significant strides at their respective clubs, providing a timely boost for the Warriors ahead of their World Cup qualifiers.

Munetsi Shines at Wolves

Munetsi, who joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on deadline day, has quickly established himself as a key figure in the squad. The midfielder has already made six appearances across all competitions and has earned praise from his coach Vitor Pereira and teammates.

“This is what we wanted when we looked for him. We wanted to find a physical midfielder who can support the other two midfielders,” said Pereira about Munetsi.

The 28-year-old versatile midfielder justified his coach’s trust by scoring a crucial equalizer against Everton over the weekend. His performance was lauded by teammate Nelson Semedo, who said:

“Very important goal for us. And for himself as well to give him some confidence.

“I think he’s doing really well. Munetsi is doing really well. I think the goal, it’s something he deserves already. Congratulations to him, and I hope he keeps doing this work and scoring for us.”

Hadebe Excels in MLS

Meanwhile, Teenage Hadebe, the Warriors’ second vice captain, is also impressing in the MLS with FC Cincinnati. He has been a regular starter in coach Pat Noonan’s 3-5-2 formation, playing a vital role in the team’s defensive setup.

This past Saturday, Hadebe started but was subbed off in the 60th minute during their 2-0 home victory over Toronto FC. The substitution was part of the coach’s tactical strategy to rest key players ahead of a crucial Concacaf Champions Cup reverse fixture against Tigres UANL in Mexico.

Speaking about Hadebe’s performance, Noonan told the club’s media:

“I think I said to Teenage when he got subbed off, I think we handled it perfectly. I think we did really, really well. And I think today it was the perfect tactic.”

Noonan’s comments came after switching to a new formation, adjusting from a three-defender setup to a four-man defense.

Boost for Zimbabwe Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

The impressive form of Munetsi and Hadebe is a major boost for Warriors coach Michael Nees as he prepares for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Nigeria next week. Nees is set to announce his squad for these crucial matches on Wednesday.
