Martinagema Moyo Wins Imbokodo Women’s Award for Best Woman Farmer

Martinagema Moyo, 54, founder and managing director of Chirandu Holdings, has been awarded the Imbokodo Women’s Award for Best Woman Farmer, marking a significant milestone in Zimbabwe’s agriculture sector. In a field historically dominated by men, Moyo’s achievement highlights the growing impact of women in agriculture.

Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, Moyo expressed gratitude and pride. She described the award as more than recognition of her work, calling it a testament to the resilience and determination of women striving to make a difference. “As a widow and a female farmer, I am humbled to be an inspiration to others,” she said. Moyo also thanked the award sponsors, noting their support empowers women to pursue their passions and create positive change in communities.

Moyo credited her mentors, family, and community for supporting her throughout her farming journey. She acknowledged the challenges of being a female farmer in a male-dominated industry, emphasizing that consistency, resilience, and ambition are key to success. She added that with ongoing support from government and stakeholders—through access to tools, mentorship, and financing—female farmers can achieve even greater outcomes.

Under Moyo’s leadership, Chirandu Holdings has pioneered a farm-to-table model, delivering fresh produce directly to consumers while promoting sustainable farming practices. The enterprise also offers event hosting services in a farm-based setting, creating additional revenue streams and innovative opportunities.

Chirandu Holdings has formed strategic partnerships, including with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Corporation, whose funding has supported business expansion and market growth.

Reflecting on her journey, Moyo stated: “Through Chirandu Holdings, I am not just cultivating crops, but cultivating change, driving a more inclusive and sustainable future for agriculture in Zimbabwe and beyond.”

Her recognition serves as a milestone for women in agriculture, demonstrating the potential for female-led enterprises to transform communities, promote sustainability, and inspire future generations of farmers.
