Enock “Nox” Guni Credits Collaborations for Success in South Africa

Zimbabwean urban contemporary artist Enock “Nox” Guni has spent 22 years in the music industry, and he attributes his success in South Africa to strategic collaborations with local stars.
In an interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Nox said breaking into the South African market was challenging for foreign artists. “To be honest, it’s never easy for foreigners to be embraced by South Africa, as they tend to respect their own stars,” he said.
He initially targeted Zimbabwean fans in the country but realized collaboration was key to gaining wider acceptance. He worked with Master shortly after the global hit “Jerusalema,” producing the song “My Melody,” which helped cement his appeal. Nox followed this with another hit featuring DJ Tira titled “Stay with Me,” which was widely embraced by fans.
Beyond collaborations, Nox highlighted professionalism as a crucial factor for success in South Africa. He noted that corporate sponsorships are common and the industry is well regulated. “In South Africa, you only make it to the top through professionalism. People investing their money want to deal with professionals,” he explained.
Nox is currently promoting his 16th album, “Change of Plans,” and plans a homecoming tour in Zimbabwe starting in early November and continuing into 2026. He emphasized that despite his success abroad, he remains deeply connected to his Zimbabwean fans. “I will always remain a Zimbabwean, and I cherish everything about my country,” he said.
Nox’s strategy mirrors that of other Zimbabwean artists succeeding in South Africa. Collaborating with local stars helps them win over South African audiences, who are strongly loyal to homegrown talent. Over the years, he has worked with legends including Ringo Madlingozi, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Mi Casa, and Freshlyground.
Other Zimbabweans are following similar paths. Jah Prayzah has collaborated with Mafikizolo, Makhadzi, DJ Maphorisa, and Master KG. Producer Mr Brown, born Lynol Siwela in Gweru, has played a key role in the careers of top South African acts such as Makhadzi, Master KG, Nomcebo Zikode, and Kabza De Small.
For Nox, collaboration, professionalism, and dedication remain central to sustaining his success in South Africa while maintaining strong ties to his roots in Zimbabwe.
