Taku Splits Unveils New Brand Identity to Strengthen Connection with Fans

Rusape-based Afro Pop, Afro Soul, and Hip Hop artist Splits Loui has officially rebranded to Taku Splits, marking a new chapter in his growing career. Born Takudzwa Man’aira, the artist says the change reflects his personal growth and a desire to create a more authentic connection with his audience. Known for his creative “sing-offs” alongside collaborator Vena Gambe, Taku Splits has built a strong following on social media through his energetic performances and versatile style.
Explaining the reason behind his rebrand, Taku Splits said his former stage name no longer represented who he has become as an artist. “My stage name is something I put together in my teens, and at the time it sounded cool, but I needed something more relatable and easy on the tongue,” he said. “Incorporating my real name will do better. This is not a shift from the work I do, but a more personal-oriented approach for the growth of my brand.” The move signals a deeper focus on identity and self-expression while maintaining the creativity that has defined his career so far.
Taku Splits rose to popularity through his engaging sing-off videos with Vena Gambe, which have gained significant traction online. Inspired by international artists such as Conor Maynard, he and Vena adapted the concept for a Zimbabwean audience. “We pick different Zimbabwean hits and perform them in one take. I see it as a way to give flowers to our own musicians who make timeless music,” he said. The approach has not only entertained fans but also celebrated Zimbabwe’s diverse music culture by reviving classic hits through fresh interpretations.
The artist’s journey began with rap before evolving into a multi-genre performer. “I started off as a rapper then tried out singing since I would sing in church, the school choir, and at sports supporters clubs,” he explained. “I liked how I sounded and kept experimenting until I found my current sound.” He also taught himself music production by observing friends, later mastering beat-making and recording. This self-taught background shaped his versatility and independence as an artist, allowing him to produce and release music consistently.
Taku Splits draws inspiration from established Zimbabwean icons such as Winky D and Jah Prayzah, whose longevity and dedication motivate him. He also credits the popular TV show Ezomgido for sparking his early love for local sounds. His success on TikTok has been impressive, with his hit “Life Yangu” used over 120,000 times on the platform, making it his most streamed song to date. “Reaching thousands of people through social media means a lot. It shows people are appreciating my craft,” he said.
Despite his achievements, Taku Splits acknowledges that his journey has not been without challenges. Limited resources for production and marketing have often posed difficulties, but he views these as opportunities for growth. “Challenges mould and motivate us to push harder as artists,” he said. “I’ve learned to make maximum use of what I have to keep improving.” He has produced numerous original songs and covers, using them to grow his audience and showcase his respect for fellow Zimbabwean musicians.
Looking ahead, Taku Splits plans to expand his reach and strengthen his presence in Zimbabwe’s music scene. “I plan on growing my reach and doing more for my brand, including releasing more videos so people can put a face to the music,” he said. “I also look forward to performing live on stage as I’m working with an incredible band now. I want to visit many places around Zimbabwe and perform for my fans.” With his rebrand and renewed focus, Taku Splits is positioning himself as one of the rising voices defining Zimbabwe’s evolving Afro music landscape.
