Bulawayo’s Ma9nine Ventures Into Jiti With New Single ‘Ngikhiphe Yonke’

Bulawayo musician Ma9nine, renowned for being the first artiste to perform Zimdancehall in Ndebele, has expanded his musical repertoire with the release of a Jiti single titled Ngikhiphe Yonke. The track showcases his versatility and marks a bold move into a new genre.

Ngikhiphe Yonke was produced by Mzilikazi-based T-Flow the Producer, with visuals directed by multi-award-winning cinematographer Rasquesity of Keaitse Films. The music video adds humor through comedian and socialite Sipho Mercent Nyathi, who plays a frustrated husband denied conjugal rights by his wife, a scene that has quickly become a fan favorite.

The song has gained traction rapidly, accumulating over 20 000 views on YouTube within four days. At a recent performance in Inyathi, Matabeleland North, audiences embraced the track, showing that Ma9nine’s experiment with Jiti is resonating with fans.

In an interview, Ma9nine emphasized that experimentation has always guided his music. “I’ve always approached music with an open mind, eager to try something new to find the best sound for Bulawayo – something people will cherish. I’ll keep experimenting and trying new sounds because I enjoy challenges,” he said.

He described Ngikhiphe Yonke as Jiti performed in Ndebele, a creative leap beyond his comfort zone. “In composing it, I pushed myself to the limit to do what some might have thought was impossible. I’m really happy with the support and positive feedback from my fans – they are vibing with the new sound,” Ma9nine added.

Addressing questions about a return to Zimdancehall, Ma9nine highlighted his versatility. “I’m a very versatile artiste, and I believe my creativity is unmatched. Today, I’ve done Jiti, tomorrow I could do Rhumba. My identity is rooted in Zimdancehall, but experimenting with Jiti is a way to reach new fans and expand my audience. I’ll return to Zimdancehall in due course, but for now, I’m bringing more Jiti songs,” he explained.

Ngikhiphe Yonke signals a new chapter for Ma9nine, demonstrating his ability to blend genres while staying true to his Ndebele roots. Fans can expect more innovative releases as he continues to explore diverse sounds in Zimbabwean music.
