Art Galzim Centre Launch in Domboshava Spotlights Keith Zenda and Zimbabwean Creative Heritage

The official launch of the Art Galzim Centre in Domboshava celebrated Zimbabwean music, heritage, and visual art while placing a spotlight on founder Keith Zenda, whose vision made the centre possible. A highlight of the launch was Zenda presenting a hyper-realistic painted portrait of Chief Chinamhora, depicting him engaged in office work with meticulous attention to detail. This artwork reflected Zenda’s signature style and his ability to capture both personality and cultural significance. Chief Chinamhora, in turn, addressed the audience, linking the traditional Shona game nhodo to contemporary creativity and emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural knowledge. He also called for community unity, referencing historical Shona migrations from Guruswa to Great Zimbabwe, Washawasha, and Mbire in Hwedza. The chief praised Zenda’s works for embodying pride in African identity and underscoring how art can carry enduring philosophies and cultural habits.
