Zimbabwe Launches Pioneering Containerised ICT Hub at JITI High School

Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. T.A. Mavetera, together with Hon. Torerai Moyo, has commissioned a state-of-the-art, fully containerised ICT Hub at JITI High School in Shamva. The facility is equipped with 40 computers, solar power, and Starlink connectivity, offering students access to modern digital learning tools even in remote areas.

The containerised ICT Hub represents a significant step toward bridging the digital divide in Zimbabwe’s education sector. By combining renewable energy with satellite internet, the hub ensures continuous access to digital resources, enabling students to participate in e-learning, coding, research, and online collaboration.

In addition to the JITI High School project, the Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services donated ICT equipment to Wadzanai High School, expanding access to technology across the Shamva district. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance digital literacy and prepare Zimbabwean students for the demands of the 21st-century economy.

Minister Mavetera highlighted the importance of integrating technology into education. “Providing students with reliable ICT infrastructure is essential for their academic development and future competitiveness. These hubs allow learners to acquire skills that are critical in today’s digital world,” he said.

The use of containerised solutions allows rapid deployment of fully functional computer labs in schools with limited infrastructure, making it a scalable model for other regions. Solar power ensures sustainability and reduces dependence on unreliable electricity supply, while Starlink connectivity provides high-speed internet even in remote locations.

These initiatives signal the Zimbabwean government’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve educational outcomes and equip the next generation with essential digital skills. By enhancing access to ICT resources, students in Shamva and beyond are better positioned to explore opportunities in coding, online learning, and innovation-driven careers.

The commissioning of the JITI High School ICT Hub and donations to Wadzanai High School mark a milestone in Zimbabwe’s efforts to advance digital education, demonstrating a clear focus on sustainability, connectivity, and equitable access to technology for all students.
