Mafuruse strike hands Herentals Queens narrow victory

Herentals Queens continued to demonstrate their determination to retain the Women’s Super League title by grinding out a 1 nil win over Correctional Queens at Waghadhugu Stadium on Saturday.

Although Correctional Queens started the game with a bang, with midfielder Merjury Nyaumwe having her free-kick saved from the edge of the box, Herentals Queens were quick to respond.

Maud Mafuruse broke free and shot wide, but the visitors didn’t give up. After a defensive error by Chido Dzingirai, Mafuruse was able to score the first goal of the game for Herentals Queens.

After conceding, Correctional Queens tried to even the score but were unable to penetrate Herentals’ well-organized defense. Goalkeeper Lindiwe Magwede saved the day with some brilliant saves, and the game ended with a 1-0 win for Herentals Queens.

The victory maintained Herentals unbeaten streak, while Correctional Queens tasted defeat for the first time this season.

In other encounters Black Rhinos Queens laid a significant marker in their quest to challenge for the title after hammering Harare City Queens 5 nil as Platinum Queens won by a similiar scoreline in their clash against Queen Lozikeyi.

Yadah edged Black Mambas Queens 1 nil as Chapungu hammered Shine Shine Queens 9 nil. Borrow Jets produced a 4 nil victory over Conduit with Faithdrive Academy playing out a 1 all draw in their clash with Midlands State University. In Norton, Maningi Youth Academy suffered their second consecutive defeat after crashing to a 3-1 loss to Chipembere Queens.
