Barbourfields violence leaves 8 injured

A total of 8 people, 4 civilians and 4 policemen, have been left injured following the violence that erupted at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday during a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League duel pitting Dynamos and Highlanders.

Highlanders fans forced the match to be abandoned in the 35th minute when they threw missiles before invading the pitch with their side trailing 2-0.

Shortly after DeMbare skipper Frank Makarati doubled the advantage for his team with a perfect header off a Ali Sadiki freekick in the 33rd minute, Bosso fans could not stomach what they deemed referee Allan Bhasvi’s unfair decision not to award their team a penalty, thereby causing the violence.

“Preliminary investigations have confirmed that four policemen and fur members of the public have been injured during the pitch invasion and subsequent violence which erupted inside the stadium (Barbourfields). Three police vehicles were stoned and damaged by the soccer hooligans,” read part of the statement.

Furthermore, the police, in a statement, has also confirmed that three cars were damaged during the incident.
