Ngezi maintain grip at the top

Log leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars cemented their title credentials with an impressive 3-0 win at home to Green Fuel on Saturday seeing them making it 2 wins out of two.

The platinum miners were ruthless from the onset till the outset as they gave the visitors no chance of any resurrection to maintain their position at the apex of the 18-team log table.

Skipper and man of the moment Qadr Amini, Delic Murimba and Bruno Mtigo were on target as Madamburo opened a four-point gap at the top of the log before Highlanders reduced it to just a point following their 2-0 win over Yadah at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

Madamburo set the pace in the early minutes as they sought for an opener and were quick to settle in the game when Amini found the back of the net courtesy of his trademark freekicks outside the box in the tenth minute.

Green Fuel were left chasing shadows from then on and their day in office turned into further misery 14 minutes later when forgotten hitman Murimba ended his dreadful goal drought from close to double the hosts’ lead.

Madamburo continued to cause all sorts of problems for the visitors with Mtigo almost adding onto his team’s tally 10 minutes into the second half but his effort went just wide.

However, Mtigo was to be rewarded for his continuous efforts in front of Green Fuel’s goal mouth just after the hour mark giving Ngezi Platinum Stars an unassailable 3-0 lead with 29 minutes still on the clock.

Moments later, Murimba almost grabbed his second goal of the day after he slashed a shot across the face of goal as Green Fuel survived.

Ngezi would make some tactical changes along the way in an effort to maintain their lead and their plan worked as they managed to hold onto their 3-0 lead until the final whistle.
