Pastor Charles and Mai Olivia Charamba Celebrate 30 Years of Gospel Excellence with Fan-Picked Album

Zimbabwe’s gospel power couple, Pastor Charles and Mai Olivia Charamba, marked thirty years in music and ministry with a grand celebration in Harare this past Saturday. The event, themed Thirty Years Thirty Songs, was a powerful reminder of their unmatched influence and enduring impact on Zimbabwe’s gospel music scene.
Unlike most albums directed by producers or record executives, this milestone project was curated entirely by fans. According to the couple’s first daughter and event organiser, Shalom Charamba, the concept was inspired by audience love and nostalgia. “The 30 songs that were performed were picked by the fans through social media platforms,” she explained. “Thirty songs from the Charambas’ catalogue, spanning from 1995 to 2025.”
Shalom described the event as a deeply fulfilling experience. “The turnout was amazing and the atmosphere was charged. We are so grateful to God for making it successful.” She added that her parents released three albums this year, featuring thirty songs in total, to celebrate their thirty years in gospel music.
The launch, held in Harare, was more than a concert. It was a spiritual celebration. Fans packed the venue to capacity, creating an atmosphere filled with worship, joy, and gratitude. Gospel stars including Janet Manyowa, Minister Benny Hadassah Muzanamombe, Pastor Tinashe Murigo, radio host Tildah Moyo, and the Mlalazi family attended to honour the couple’s legacy.
The night opened with a performance by their daughter Eternity Charamba, who proved that the family’s musical anointing is alive in the next generation. She set the tone before handing the stage to her parents, who performed a 15-song set drawn from their extensive catalogue. Voices of Triumph added vocal power during interludes, amplifying the worship experience.
As expected, the classics stirred the strongest emotions. Songs like Machira Chete, Nyika Zimbabwe, Buruka, Africa Restore Identity, Hupenyu Hwangu, and Jehovah NdiMwari Wedu moved the crowd. These hits, some dating back to the early 2000s, carried listeners down memory lane. The audience sang along word for word, some dancing, others in tears. It was a night of reflection and renewal.
Their new music blended seamlessly with the old, showing that the Charambas have mastered the balance between tradition and innovation. Despite three decades in the industry, their sound remains spirit-led, authentic, and relevant.
Their enduring success comes not only from their artistry but also from their integrity. Over the years, Pastor Charles and Mai Olivia Charamba have maintained humility and grace, focusing on ministry rather than fame. “In an industry where so much can go wrong, they’ve always done things right,” one fan remarked. “They’re not just artists, they’re servants.”
During the event, Pastor Charamba reminded everyone of their mission. “It has always been about ministry. Not the spotlight. Not the fame. Just service,” he said. That humility reflected in every aspect of the night, from the simple stage setup to the heartfelt performances that made every fan feel valued.
Thirty Years Thirty Songs is more than an album. It is a testament to endurance, faith, and gratitude. It captures the Charambas’ journey of music, family, and ministry in one powerful statement.
As the evening ended with thunderous applause, one thing became clear. Pastor Charles and Mai Olivia Charamba are not finished. Thirty years in, they continue to set the standard for gospel excellence in Zimbabwe. Their journey of service and song is far from over.
