British Isaac Madzivanyika Launches Drama Film to Address Drug Abuse and Gender-Based Violence in Zimbabwe

British Isaac Madzivanyika, a Zimbabwean film producer, says his newly released drama film The Future is aimed at confronting drug abuse and gender-based violence in the country.

The film, which premiered recently in Harare, features a new wave of Zimbabwean actors and filmmakers. It seeks to spark conversations about accountability, resilience, and the need for societal change.

Madzivanyika said the story is drawn from real-life situations faced by young people in Zimbabwe.

“The story was inspired by real issues facing our society — drug abuse, gender-based violence and emotional abuse,” he said. “These are not just fictional elements. They reflect the harsh realities many Zimbabweans live with. We wanted to use film as a mirror and a platform for conversation and healing. The core message is about awareness, resilience and accountability.”

He added that the film challenges audiences to think about how these problems affect individuals, families, and communities. “Silence or ignorance is no longer an option. It is about starting conversations that lead to action.”

The Future showcases fresh Zimbabwean talent both on and off screen. Madzivanyika said the production breaks away from the repetition of familiar faces in local films.

“Audiences can expect fresh energy, compelling performances and honest, raw storytelling,” he said. “This project introduces bold, new voices ready to shape the future of local cinema.”

With its hard-hitting themes and new creative energy, The Future is positioned to drive awareness and inspire change in Zimbabwe’s fight against drug abuse and gender-based violence.
