Insimbi ZeZhwane Reclaims Rhumba Glory with New Album ‘Infundamakhwela’

Tshibilika and Rhumba powerhouse Insimbi ZeZhwane has reaffirmed its dominance in the genre with the release of its latest album, Infundamakhwela. The group launched the seven-track project at a sold-out show in Johannesburg, South Africa, on November 1, drawing over 4 000 fans.

Frontman Meluleki “Brema” Moyo said the turnout exceeded expectations and reflected the group’s strong bond with its supporters. “At the official launch, our fans turned out in numbers as the venue was filled to the brim. We’re grateful for what they’ve done for us, and we pray that they continue to support all Rhumba musicians so that the genre grows,” he said.

The album, recorded at TM Records, features songs Umthobanhliziyo, Ingezamanxeba, Inkemba, Ulibofuzo, Umambule, and the title track Infundamakhwela. Each track carries the group’s signature Rhumba rhythm fused with modern production and emotional storytelling. The project highlights a mature sound shaped by years of experience, creativity, and healing.

Production quality was elevated by a skilled lineup that includes Ergan “Magic Fingers” Nzima on vocals, Meluleki “Brema” Moyo, Praylord “Bhinkie Bhinkie” Mkhonto, and Mafiyosi Ndlovu on instrumentation, while Nkosikhona Ngwabi handled mixing and mastering. Their combined artistry gave the album a rich and polished feel that stands out in today’s Rhumba scene.

Fans showed their appreciation in remarkable fashion, gifting the group over R60 000 during the show. Major contributors included Mbizo Contractors (R20 000), Sporori (R10 000), Philani Brandy Ndlovu (R10 000), Mangako (R5 000), Mdala Konka (R3 000), Putin (R3 000), and Sokhela Zhwane (R1 000). Brema described the moment as both emotional and motivating.

He dedicated Infundamakhwela to the group’s late members Elvis “MaEli” Mathe and Thembinkosi “Maviri” Mpofu, who passed away in a road accident in 2023. “This album is for them. We made history again by selling out the launch. We’re growing in the right direction together with our fans. The future of Rhumba music is bright,” said Brema.

Insimbi ZeZhwane will bring the celebration home with a Bulawayo launch on November 8. The show will feature another Rhumba icon, Clement Magwaza, who will also unveil his new album Indoda yi Umbrella. Brema said the joint event is aimed at strengthening unity among Rhumba artists and fans.

“For our local launch, we’ll be joined by our brother Clement Magwaza, who also has a fresh album. This show is about promoting peace and togetherness in the Rhumba music circle, as we encourage our fans to support every creative doing Rhumba music,” he said. The group’s loyal fan base, known as the Purple Nation, is expected to fill the venue once again as Insimbi ZeZhwane continues to build on its legacy. With Infundamakhwela, the band has proven that its sound and spirit remain unmatched in Zimbabwe’s vibrant Rhumba landscape.
