Rising Star Twentyseven Drops Powerful Debut EP Togara Sei

Emerging from the vibrant heart of Zimbabwe’s urban music scene, Twentyseven is a name that’s quickly gaining traction. With a compelling fusion of rap, introspective storytelling, and social consciousness, the rising artiste marked a major milestone on July 27 with the release of his debut EP, Togara Sei.
Real name Tanyaradzwa Chimombe, Twentyseven has long felt destined for music. Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, he shared that Togara Sei — which means “What’s going on?” in Shona — is not just a project, but a powerful reflection of life as he’s lived and observed it.
“It’s a reflection of life in the ghetto, the struggles of youth and the internal questions we often face,” he said. “Each track offers a piece of my mind and soul, shaped by the rhythms of everyday life and the challenges of a society in transition.”
The five-track EP showcases Twentyseven’s evolution from a schoolboy with dreams of the stage to a powerful voice in Zimbabwean hip-hop. Having discovered his passion for performing as early as Grade 4, he has since honed his craft, combining heartfelt lyrics with Afro-urban beats and socially charged themes.
Togara Sei is rich with collaborations that bring added depth and texture to the project. TadiwaSaint features on My Power, a dynamic anthem of resilience and self-belief. Meanwhile, WoodsMusic adds flair to Kana Zvaita, the project’s closing track that explores hope and acceptance in a world full of uncertainties.
A standout track, Ghetto, comes with a hard-hitting, visually gripping video directed by Sir Aleck. It paints a raw, honest picture of growing up in Zimbabwe’s high-density suburbs — a powerful tribute to those often overlooked. “It’s a voice for the voiceless and a mirror to the neglected,” said Twentyseven.
Now with 10 officially released songs, the artist is just getting started. His music reflects a balance between lyrical depth and catchy rhythms, bridging the gap between urban rap and Afrocentric soundscapes. Through his work, Twentyseven is carving a unique identity that resonates deeply with Zimbabwe’s youth.
“More than just a stage name, Twentyseven is a statement of identity and timing,” he said. “As I build my catalogue, network and audience, I remain rooted in purpose and the community that raised me. Togara Sei is not just a question, it’s a call to think, to feel, and to rise.”
With Togara Sei, Twentyseven doesn’t just deliver an EP — he delivers a message, a movement, and a promise of more to come from one of Zimbabwe’s most promising voices.
