Inner Visions Brings Zimbabwe’s Afro House Talent Together for November Compilation

Nearly 16 Zimbabwean DJs, producers and artists are set to come together on Inner Visions, a multi-track Afro House compilation scheduled for release in November. The project aims to capture the current state of Zimbabwe’s evolving Afro House scene by bringing established names and emerging artists onto one collective release. Initiated and curated by South Africa-based Zimbabwean DJ and producer Dr Feel, the compilation looks beyond individual careers to present a broader picture of the country’s electronic music talent. It brings together artists working across different sounds and approaches within Afro House while highlighting the growing reach of Zimbabwean music beyond the country’s borders. Inner Visions is therefore positioned not simply as another compilation, but as a collective statement about the direction and potential of Zimbabwean Afro House.
The compilation features a wide range of Zimbabwean talent, including DJ Stavo, Nitefreak, Dr Chaii, Ryan Synth, MIčI, Reverb, TAPIWA, Simbai, Tashinga, Shona, PA NGU, Afro Wav, Takue SBT, Josh Major, Daphfinee and Taarof Adder. Bringing these artists together gives the project a broad representation of the local Afro House community. Some of the contributors have already built audiences outside Zimbabwe, while others represent emerging voices within the country’s electronic music landscape. Their different experiences and musical approaches are expected to give the compilation a varied sound while maintaining its central Afro House identity. The project creates an opportunity for listeners to discover several Zimbabwean artists through a single release.
Dr Feel has described Inner Visions as an attempt to document where Zimbabwean Afro House stands at this particular point in time. Rather than focusing on one producer or one established sound, the compilation gives multiple artists space to express their interpretation of the genre. This approach reflects the changing nature of Afro House, which continues to draw on electronic production, African rhythms and different regional influences. For Zimbabwean artists, participating in a collective project can also provide greater visibility than releasing music entirely on their own. Inner Visions aims to use that collective strength to present Zimbabwean Afro House as a developing scene with its own identity.
The concept behind the compilation is also connected to themes of identity, memory and personal experience. Dr Feel said the project is about looking inward before looking outward, suggesting that the music begins with the experiences and perspectives of the artists creating it. That idea gives the compilation a strong connection to Zimbabwean identity while still allowing the music to speak to international audiences. Afro House is a global genre, and Zimbabwean producers have increasingly found opportunities to participate in that international conversation. Inner Visions seeks to show what the genre sounds like when it is interpreted through the experiences of Zimbabwean musicians.
Dr Feel brings considerable experience to the project after years of releasing and performing electronic music. He has released more than 200 singles and more than 10 EPs, as well as the albums Made in Africa and Indalo. His music has appeared on labels and platforms including Defected, Sondela, Deep Root Tribe, Nervous and Aluku. His work has also received support from established figures in the electronic music industry, including Black Coffee, Keinemusik, Shimza, Themba and Djeff. That background gives him an international perspective that has helped shape the wider ambitions of Inner Visions.
His career has also taken him to audiences in several international markets. Dr Feel has performed at events and venues including Sondela Summer Party, Badbox & Friends in London, Cé La Vi in Dubai and Amsterdam Dance Event. His performance history also includes appearances in Germany, France, Kenya, Cyprus, Zambia and Johannesburg. These experiences have exposed him to different audiences and electronic music communities outside Zimbabwe. His role in curating Inner Visions therefore connects the compilation to both Zimbabwe’s local scene and the wider Afro House industry.
Despite Dr Feel’s extensive catalogue, Inner Visions is deliberately not designed as an extension of his solo work. The compilation brings together other established producers such as Nitefreak and Dr Chaii alongside a broader group of Zimbabwean artists. This distinction is important because the project is intended to give the wider community a platform rather than place one artist at its centre. The involvement of multiple contributors allows the compilation to demonstrate the range of sounds emerging from Zimbabwe’s Afro House movement. It also gives the artists an opportunity to be heard alongside peers who are building their own careers in the genre.
The collective nature of Inner Visions could prove particularly important for Zimbabwean House music. Individual artists can find it difficult to break into international markets because exposure often depends on access to established labels, promoters, DJs and audiences. A compilation can create a shared platform where artists benefit from the attention generated by the overall project. It can also make it easier for listeners and industry professionals to discover several musicians at once. By presenting the artists as part of a connected community, the project aims to strengthen the visibility of Zimbabwean Afro House as a whole.
Tendai Joe, the project’s PR and Communications Manager, said the willingness of DJs and producers to work together was one of the most encouraging aspects of the compilation. He described the collaboration as an opportunity to create a united platform that can help artists grow both individually and collectively. That emphasis on unity reflects a wider ambition to build stronger connections within Zimbabwe’s House music ecosystem. Rather than treating international success as something that individual artists must pursue alone, the project encourages musicians to benefit from shared promotion and collective visibility. The idea is to create a stronger foundation from which individual careers can also develop.
International expansion remains a central goal of the project. Some of the artists involved are already working beyond Zimbabwe, demonstrating that local talent can compete for audiences in established international electronic music markets. Inner Visions aims to build on that progress by giving more artists a collective platform through which they can reach new listeners. The compilation could also help introduce Zimbabwean House music to DJs, promoters and fans who may not yet be familiar with the country’s growing scene. Its success will ultimately depend on how effectively the music connects with audiences, but the project provides a structured opportunity to test that reach.
The timing of Inner Visions is also significant because House music continues to maintain a strong international presence. Zimbabwean producers have an opportunity to position themselves within that global market by developing distinctive sounds and building relationships with artists and labels in other countries. A collective project can make that process more visible by demonstrating that Zimbabwe has a community of artists working consistently within the genre. It also provides a way to present different aspects of Zimbabwean electronic music without reducing the scene to a single sound or performer. Inner Visions is therefore designed to reflect both the diversity and the shared identity of the artists involved.
For Zimbabwean music fans, the compilation offers an opportunity to hear familiar names alongside artists who may be less widely known. The combination of established and emerging talent can help listeners explore different styles within Afro House while discovering new performers. It also provides an important snapshot of a scene that continues to develop through independent releases, international collaborations and performances. As the artists bring their individual experiences into one project, the compilation can show how different creative approaches coexist within Zimbabwean House music. That diversity could become one of the release’s defining characteristics.
Inner Visions is scheduled to be released in November through South African House music label Mansa Musa, giving the project a regional platform from which to reach listeners. JBross Media Group is handling the communications and media campaign around the compilation. The involvement of a South African label also reflects the cross-border ambitions of the project and the growing relationship between Zimbabwean artists and the wider Southern African electronic music industry. For the artists involved, the release could provide a new route into audiences that extend beyond Zimbabwe. The November launch will therefore be an important moment for the project and for the broader campaign to raise the profile of Zimbabwean Afro House.
Ultimately, Inner Visions represents an effort to document and strengthen Zimbabwe’s Afro House movement at a significant stage of its development. By bringing nearly 16 DJs, producers and artists together, the project shifts attention from individual achievements to the strength of the wider creative community. Dr Feel’s experience and international connections provide a strong foundation, while the participation of established and emerging artists gives the compilation a broader identity. Its ambitions extend beyond the November release, with the organisers hoping to create stronger opportunities for Zimbabwean House music in international markets. If that collective approach succeeds, Inner Visions could become an important marker of Zimbabwe’s growing presence in the global Afro House scene and a platform from which more local artists can build international careers.
