Bulawayo Chiefs unveil Danny Phiri

The 2015 Castle Lager Soccer Star of the Year Danny Phiri has found a new home at Bulawayo Chiefs ahead of the upcoming 2023 topflight season which begins in March.

Announcing the development, Amakhosi took to their official Twitter handle on Tuesday and wrote: “Danny ‘Deco’ Phiri is now a NINJA.”

The former Chicken Inn midfielder’s move comes after the Bulawayo-based club was hit by a players’ exodus at the end of last season.

Upon competing his deal whose length is still kept under wraps, Phiri expressed his eager to return to top form and help Amakhosi achieve its set targets.

“The injury worries are over. I am fit now and ready to play. This is a chance to bounce back and prove myself again,” he said.

It is believed that Bulawayo Chiefs have become financially unstable hence the move by several of their players to other topflight league clubs in search for greener pastures.

And as part of rigorous efforts to assemble a squad in time before the 2023 campaign kicks off, Amakhosi have added Phiri into their fold in a bid not only to just have a team in the PSL but also to compete and stay afloat.

Deco as Phiri is affectionately known left Zimbabwe in 2016 for DStv Premiership outfit Lamontville Golden Arrows where he spent 6 years before moving to Tanzania’s second-tier club Diamond Trust Bank 5 years later.

Prior to that Deco had won the domestic championship with Chicken Inn in 2015, the same year he was crowned the country’s Most Valuable Player.
