Traffic set to dwindle amid fuel hikes.

The volume of traffic across the country is expected to significantly dwindle following an increase in the price of fuel. Most service stations on Tuesday raised the fuel pump price to $4.97 a litre making the precious commodity beyond the reach of many. As a contingency measure within households many are expected to resort to public transport as the new prices pose a long term viability convern to motorists.

The fuel increase has been necessitated by pronouncememts made by the RBZ which brought fuel prices in tandem with the interbank exchange rate as a way of doing away with government having to subsidise fuel. While fuel prices have increased the public has been provided with the option of boarding Zupco buses which are costing from as little as 50 cents depending on the distance of a journey.

A reduction in the prices of Zupco buses is expected to provide relief for the public in the wake of fuel increases. Analysts say fuel price increases are likely to make motorists park their cars and make use of public transport which is now being provided at a reasonable rate.
