Takanyi Garanganga stuns Columbus challenger fifth seed

Zimbabwe’s top ranked player Takanyi Garanganga stunned United States player Austin Krajicek with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win in the first round of the Columbus challenger on Tuesday.

Garanganga went into Tuesday’s encounter with an underdog tag but the Zimbabwean exhibited great tenacity on his way to a 3 set victory.

Zimbabwe’s number player got off to a flying start after winning the first set 6-2 in 43 minutes. Krajicek however bounced back in the second with a 6-3 win setting the stage for a decisive third set.

Takanyi upped the tempo in the third set as he raced into a 3-0 lead. Takanyi would eventually win the third set 6-3, to claim a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 victory.
