Kurai Makore Keeps Fans Entertained Amid January Lull

While many musicians take a break during the traditional “January disease,” Chimurenga star Kurai Makore has remained active, performing for fans across Zimbabwe. With Agga Nyabinde also on the scene, Makore has emerged as the most consistent performer during this period.

The Black Lions leader told Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub that fan demand motivates his January performances. “To be honest with you, I can’t defy or go against my fans’ wishes. My fans needed entertainment, and I had no option but to keep them engaged,” he said.

Makore only paused for the second weekend of January to accommodate back-to-school preparations, but otherwise remained committed to performing. “In music, one needs to be loyal to his fans. I only stopped for one weekend, even though people wanted my services. I was humbled by the support I received,” he added.

Following a strong 2025, Makore continues to invest in his band, calling it a “star-studded side” whose talent deserves to be showcased. “I can’t afford to disappoint them or let them down. I have always loved them deeply because they are the ones leading me to everything you see happening on stage,” he said.

When asked how he attracts crowds while other major artists like Alick Macheso, Winky D, and Jah Prayzah rest, Makore highlighted his understanding of fan expectations and venue selection. “There are venues where I know I will never disappoint or perform for a meager crowd. My management has mastered that, making my job easier,” he explained.

Makore also acknowledged the role of music in lifting spirits during difficult times. “Even during tough times in Zimbabwe, music has been a unifier, allowing many of us to forget our sorrows. In war-torn countries, music serves as a painkiller, showing that you can’t stop the fun.”

The singer expressed pride in being ranked among the top performers in Zimbabwe. He plans to continue producing new music visuals, emphasizing their importance in defining his artistic identity. “I won’t stop producing visuals because they define us and who we are. I can’t thank my team enough for sharing the same vision with me,” he said.

Having received the blessing of his uncle, Thomas “Mukanya” Mapfumo, to pursue music, Makore has steadily grown his career, sharing the stage with his mentor regionally and internationally. His commitment to entertaining fans and investing in his craft ensures he remains one of Zimbabwe’s most beloved musicians.
