Cephas Chimedza Reflects on Lost Opportunity

Former Caps United and Zimbabwe national team player, Cephas Chimedza, has expressed regret over a missed chance to join English Championship team Sheffield United.

Chimedza was supposed to travel to the UK, but the deal fell apart due to complications with the agents involved in facilitating the process. Sheffield United expressed interest in Chimedza and wrote a letter requesting a visa for the player to try out with the Championship team.

However, representation issues stood in the way, and Chimedza ultimately moved to Belgium to play for Germinal Beerschot later that same year. Letters published on Chimedza’s official Facebook page confirm Sheffield United’s interest in him.

Chimedza is currently based in Belgium where he built a name for himself after illuminating the Zimbabwean PSL during his period at Caps United.

Had Chimedza engaged in a successful trial stint at Sheffield he would have been counted among Zimbabwean players to play for the Club, a feat also achieved by Warriors great, Peter Ndlovu.
