Zera Cuts LPG Prices for August 2025

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) has reduced the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for August 2025 in both US dollars and local currency. The new price is set at US$1.51 per kilogramme, down from US$1.57. In local currency, the price moves to ZWG40.56 per kg from ZWG42.31.

Zera said the revised prices were calculated in line with the Petroleum (Liquid Petroleum Gas Pricing) Regulations of 2021. The authority directed all operators to clearly display the new rates at their retail outlets. It also stated that retailers may charge below the official price if they have operational advantages that allow them to do so.

LPG demand in Zimbabwe continues to grow. Zera’s 2024 Annual Performance Report shows that consumption reached 77 million kg last year. This was supported by 622 licensed retail sites, which recorded a compliance rate of 93.7 percent. The regulator attributes the high compliance to its ban on smuggled gas cylinders, although illegal vending remains a concern.

The authority also raised safety concerns, pointing to an increase in accidents caused by mishandling LPG and failure to follow safety procedures. Zera urged continuous training for operators and stronger public awareness campaigns on safe LPG use to prevent incidents.

The latest price cut is expected to offer some relief to households and businesses that rely on LPG for cooking, heating, and other energy needs. However, Zera stressed that safety must remain a top priority across the supply chain.
